Aura User Documentation

Overview

This document is a quick reference guide for users on the PhoneNet Aura Platform. It describes common numbers, dialing plans, and other features on the system.

Warning

PhoneNet is a hobby telephone network and does not guarantee service in any way. Emergency calls are not supported and users should maintain an alternative service for emergency calls.

System Overview

This system is running Avaya Communication Manager 8.1 with associated services.

Connectivity is through:

  • SIP trunks to the core PhoneNet gateway (Asterisk).
  • SIP trunks to PSTN carriers.
  • ISDN (30 channels) to the PhoneNet ISDN backbone for connectivity to other switches such as the NEC NEAX, Ericsson BP250, Alcatel OXO, etc

Switchboard (1111)

The switchboard operator is your first point of contact and can be reached by dialing 1111.

As a hobby network the operator may not always be available. You may leave a message for your call to be returned.

You may also reach other PhoneNet users externally by calling the switchboard on the following numbers:

Country / Network Number
Australia +61 2 8403 0000
United Kingdom +44 20 3918 2999
United States +1 408 715 2999 / +1 866 227 0000
TandmX 791-0000
PhreakNet 791-0000
C*NET 61 2 471 0000

Calls to the above numbers will be directed to the auto attendant if an operator is not immediately available.

For user provisioning and system administration requests you should instead contact the "Business Office" on 1199 or by email to support@phonenet.au

Virtual Operator

The virtual operator can be reached on 99 and can transfer you to most users on the system.

Number Plan

The following PhoneNet number ranges route to Aura. You may verify this list against the switch by dialing the verification service on 19291.

  • 20XX
  • 4XXX
  • 51XX
  • 191XX
  • 192XX

Any assigned extension is automatically reachable from all other PhoneNet switches, and peered hobby networks including TandmX, PhreakNet, and C*Net.

Voicemail

We use Avaya Messaging for voicemail and your mailbox will be configured by the system administrator with the settings appropriate for your user type.

To access your messages, press the messages button on your phone or dial 4999. To access another mailbox, dial 4000 and press # when answered.

You may reach messaging from peered networks or by dialing our PSTN access numbers:

  • Australia: +61 7 5651 0000
  • United States: +1 (530) 269-4999

Dialing Out

You may reach any PhoneNet extension by dialing the four digit number.

Info

Standard users may only call internal numbers and peered networks. Contact the switchboard if you have issues placing a call.

Peered Networks

Use the following prefixes to access peered networks:

  • TandmX: 95
  • PhreakNet: 96
  • C*NET: 97

For example:

  • 451-7075 on TandmX is 95 451 7075.
  • 747-2203 on PhreakNet is 96 747 2203.
  • 1 867 5309 on C*NET is 97 1 867 5309.

Australia

All Australian numbers may be dialed as normal. An area code is required at all times, but an outside line prefix is not required.

North America

Dial 81 and the full 10 digit number. eg: (800) 444 4444 is 81 800 444 4444.

You may also dial North American numbers as 0011 + 1 + number (eg: 0011 1 800 444 4444).

International

Dial 0011 + CC + Number

eg:
+44 20 3918 2999 is 0011 44 20 3918 2999.

Emergency

Danger

Unless you have been explicitly advised that emergency calling is available on your service, you will be unable to dial emergency (000 or 911). Calls to these numbers will hear an announcement indicating that service is unavailable. In all cases we recommend using another phone service.
